Visitor Center

The phase-one Visitor Center at the Vore Buffalo Jump was opened in the summer of 2009. The building contains displays related to the Vore Site as well as sale items.

In order to make a permanent structure on the site a reality, Basin Electric’s Foundation made a $5,000 cash donation and Croell Redimix provided gravel fines and concrete for footings.

Powder River Energy Corporation provided an electrical hook-up and has donated materials, equipment, and volunteer labor of their employees to provide electricity to the site.

Thanks to R.J. Olson Log Homes in Hulett for construction of the cabin. John Collins, Bruce Hanson, and Dann Vore helped with construction.

Thanks also to ELEC-TECH (Hulett), Energy Electric (Sundance), Knecht Building Center (Spearfish), and the Crook County Road and Bridge crew, and Ziegler Lumber (Spearfish)

Excavation Building

A building to protect and expand the excavation unit at the Vore Buffalo Jump was erected during the summer of 2010.

Steve Sisk aided in preparing the foundation, and funding from the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund and the Black Hills Area Community Foundation made the building possible

Displays were prepared by students from the UW Field School under the direction of Dr. Charles Reher.

We appreciate the loan of two tepees from the Cheyenne Nation Cultural Center.

The tepees were erected with help from workers from the Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp.
